Submission Guidelines

****THE SUBMISSION FORM IS CURRENTLY CLOSED AND THE MAGAZINE IS NOT ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS AT THIS TIME. Any updates on future issues and open submissions will be on the website or social media.****

The Witch of the Woods welcomes all creators and their dark works, but she has some requirements:

  • The work must be previously unpublished. The Witch/MONSTER’S iNK will receive first serial rights.
  • The work must be in a PDF or Word Doc format. Submissions in any other format will be immediately rejected.
    • Please keep all names and personal information out of the submission itself. You can provide your name/alias in your filled-out Google form.
    • Submitters are highly encouraged to stick to a 12 point, Times New Roman font, especially for story-like prose works (this makes importing and formatting the submissions in WordPress easier). This is not a strict rule, however. The Witch doesn’t wish to restrict her creatives.
  • The work must abide by page/content limits:
    • Prose works must be no more than 15 pages.
    • Poetry collections must feature no more than 6 poems.
  • The work must feature some degree of the supernatural/paranormal/horror/any other dark, creature-filled, unexplainable genre. This is the nature of the magazine. This is not to say works must only be these genres, but an emphasis should be placed on these genres. Vampire romances, ghostly tragedies, and werewolf comedies are gladly accepted. Tales of playful kittens and puppies will (for the most part) not be accepted, but the Witch is happy to direct those looking for a home for their works.

Besides requirements, the Witch also has some suggestions:

  • Multiple submissions are accepted, generally. The Witch will gladly read a creator’s poetry and prose, but kindly asks creators to submit one to each if submitting both poetry and prose. Additionally, if a creator only wishes to submit multiple pieces of only poetry or only prose, this will also be accepted within reason.
  • If some context is necessary for consuming/understanding one’s work, it is highly encouraged the creator includes it. For example, if a poet refers to folkloric creatures from Eastern Europe in their work, it is highly encouraged that the creator include brief context to inform the Witch and potential readers. This does not have to be within the work; instead, if a creator so chooses, a few sentences of context can be added after their work in the final publication. Additionally, if a creator wants to provide context for the Witch but not for readers, they may so choose, and the Witch will abide.

Lastly, some final comments:

  • Art may be accepted. If it is, it will be worked into the volume between written works or as a cover image for the issue, but this is done completely at the whim of the Witch.
  • Translations also can be submitted. If a creator wishes to submit translations, the Witch asks that poet have permissions if necessary. It is also asked that the creator provide both the original work and the translation, as well as a 1 page max translator’s statement.
  • Previous submitters may submit again for later issues. I cannot guarantee you will be published again because you were once before in the magazine, but know that a rejection is not because you were previously published with us. Being published with the Witch before only ensures that she will recognize your name.

Any questions about the requirements, suggestions, or comments can be directed at the Witch below or directly by email at monstersinklitmag@gmail.com.

Otherwise, if a creator is ready to submit, the Witch wishes them the best of luck!
